Not so sweet ... packet like the one that contained wrap of cocaine left by the ten-year-old girl's father
A SCHOOLGIRL innocently picked up a bag of Haribo to take to a show-and-tell session for classmates - unaware it contained her dealer dad's cocaine.
The ten-year-old thought the one treat left inside was sherbet wrapped in cling film. But her teacher was suspicious about the powder and seized it. The head then called police who raided the father's £200,000 home.
They found 100 wraps of a suspected Class A substance and a stash of cannabis.
The 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of drug dealing and his daughter has been sent to live with her mother under the scrutiny of social workers. Parents at Southdown Junior School in Newhaven, East Sussex, were sent letters informing them of the incident.
One 40-year-old dad, who asked not to be named, said: "You teach your kids about taking sweets from strangers but don't expect them to be in danger from eating sweets offered by other children at school.
"I don't want to be wondering if my boy is being handed drugs in the playground."
A mum-of-two said: "Drug dealing is evil enough but for a dealer to disguise his drugs in a packet of sweets with children in the house is so irresponsible it beggars belief. She or a friend could have taken the drugs and died."
It is understood the ten-year-old took the pack of sweets from her home, unaware her dad used it to hide wraps for customers. She had it with her all day before it was found shortly before home time in a session in which kids talk about their possessions to classmates.
Danger ... wrap of cocaine like one found in sweets
The 217-pupil primary has been trying to turn itself round since a December 2010 Ofsted report blasted staff for lacking leadership and "failing to give pupils an acceptable standard of education".
Criticised ... the school, blasted by Ofsted last year, will hold talks on the dangers of drugs
DARREN FLETCHER Chairman of governors Stuart Ford said: "The school took the appropriate action and informed the relevant authorities."
The wrap was sent for forensic tests. Specially-trained officers and social workers interviewed the girl about where the coke came from.
Drug squad officers obtained a search warrant before raiding the father's home last Thursday.
He has been bailed while the investigation continues.
