Students are back on Glion Institute of Higher Education campuses

After a well deserved summer break, the students returned on Glion Institute of Higher Education (GIHE) campuses in Glion and Bulle to start their program in hospitality management or event sport and entertainment at the end of July. The student body at GIHE consists in this second semester of 2011 again an impressive cultural mix with more than 90 nationalities.


It’s the start of a new school year for 400 new students in Master, Bachelor, Graduate and Postgraduate programs at GIHE. In addition to the new ones, the third and sixth semester students will come back from their internship to continue their education on the Glion and Bulle campuses in Switzerland. It is also time for the second and fifth semesters to leave the school to start their 6 months professional experience around the world.

New programs will be available for the future leaders of the hospitality industry. The curriculum called "Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Management with Sustainable Development in Tourism" has been updated to answer the needs of the hospitality and tourism industries who go more and more into the sustainable development direction. The major classes taught will be Community and Sustainable Development, International Tourism Planning and Development System Analysis for the Hospitality and tourism Industry, Transport Systems and Destination Marketing.

It will also be the first semester for GIHE’s new CEO Mr. Philippe Attia. The French citizen took over the General Director’s position of the school last July 1st bringing an experience of more than 20 years in the hospitality and tourism industry. “I am glad I joined such a prestigious institution as Glion. The “Glion Spirit” and the education based on theory and practice, the quality and the variety of the academic programs offered in a structured environment allows us to form the leaders of tomorrow for the tourism and hospitality industry.”

This semester again, many companies will come on campus to recruit our students and graduates for internship or full time positions. Prestigious companies like Toga Hospitality, Accor, Marriott, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Hyatt, Hilton, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, Shangri-La International Hotel Management, Disneyland, Toga Hospitality, The Landmark Hotel London, Rezidor, InterContinental, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts and many others are planned to come. The growing interest from industries close to hospitality like tourism, finance and entertainment towards our students is confirmed again this second semester of 2011.

The future is bright for the GIHE students each one having approximately three job offer upon graduation and 90% having signed a contract when they leave GIHE.

189 students graduate from Glion Institute of Higher Education

The graduation ceremony for BBA, PGD, BSc and MBA students for the 2011.1 semester took place in Bulle, Switzerland early June 2011. Numerous guests, faculty, parents and relatives of the students attended the ceremony to witness the historic moment. A total of 189 students graduated this semester from GIHE, one of the best hospitality management schools in the world.

Several VIPs were also present for this important day. Ihe Indonesian, Equatorian and Lebanese Ambassadors in Switzerland, Mrs. Djauhari, Mr. Paredes and Mr. Rammal, were joined by Mrs. Romanens, Vice-Syndique of the city of Bulle, Mr. Wehrli, Conseiller Municipal and Deputy of Economy, Culture, Tourism and Sport for Montreux and Mr. Berset, General Director of Fribourg High School.

Keynote speaker Mr. Tony Ingold delivered an enthusiastic and hopeful speech to the future graduates: ‘We look forward to your arrival into our industry.’ The Glion Alumnus Mr. Mutua, General Manager of the Leisure Lodge Hotel in Mombasa, Kenya shared with pleasure and emotion his career path since his graduation a few years ago.

Individual prizes were distributed during the ceremony. The great performances of Emmanuelle Granier were particularly awarded. The French student received not only the ‘Audemars Piguet Swiss Learning Prix d’Excellence’, an award for academic performance and contributions to student life, and to Glion in general, but was also acknowledged with the best dissertation prize and the 'Cup of Hospitality' from GIHE CEO Mr. Christian Beek, awarding the highest grade average.

Other students were recognized during the graduation. Frederike Scholz received the 'Glion Spirit Award' sponsored by the City of Montreux, represented by Mr. Wehrli. The NH Hotel prize was delivered to Sabrina Tinnemann, while Ioanna Postelnicu was elected the top Master student. Furthermore, the Kempinski award for the best MBA student’s project in relation with the hotel chain was delivered to Miriam Sae-Tan and Jamie-Lee Mitchell.
