Luis A. López
Chief Executive Officer, Laureate Brazil
Luis López is the chief executive officer for Laureate Brazil responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial direction of the country’s institutions, including Universidade Anhembi Morumbi in Sao Paulo and Universidade del Norte in Manaus.
Previously, Luis López was instrumental in the rapid growth of Laureate programs, accreditation, facilities, and enrollment in Mexico and Central America.
Under the leadership of Mr. López, Universidad del Valle de Mexico reached over 110,000 students during 2009. In addition, during his tenure two new schools (UVB and UNIDEP) were acquired in early 2007 with five campuses and 23 units, respectively. In 2008, he also led the acquisitions of UNITEC in Mexico and Universidad Latina in Costa Rica (together, Laureate’s largest acquisition to date).
Before joining Laureate, Mr. López was director, business development and market manager, Mexican operations with Aetna International. Before joining Aetna, he was portfolio manager, commercial and structured finance with Fleet Financial Group.
Mr. López earned his B.A. in economics and organizational behavior from Brown University and his M.B.A. at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
