First anniversary for innovative Glion Online MBA

Glion Institute of Higher Education, one of the top ranked hospitality management schools in the world, is marking the one-year anniversary of the first 100% online MBA in International Hospitality and Service Industries Management from a dedicated hospitality institution.

Both industry partners and working professionals have responded enthusiastically to the new program, with over one hundred professionals joining the online MBA since it launched in August 2010. Delivered entirely online in an innovative, interactive environment, the Glion Online MBA offers industry professionals the opportunity to pursue higher education without interrupting their careers.

Kate Buchanan M.A., Program Director says: “With over 40 different nations represented in just five intakes - the Glion Online MBA has continued the international reputation and ‘Glion spirit’ of camaraderie established by its on-campus counterpart. Our students bring five to 15 years of senior work experience into Glion’s virtual classroom, benefitting from an extraordinarily strong pool of executive knowledge. In just one year, we’ve seen a thriving culture of weekly debate and discussions come into existence.

The program attracts professionals working directly in the hospitality and tourism industry as well as professionals from the wider service industries such as finance, insurance, travel and real estate who want to benefit from an MBA with hospitality and services focus.

“The program looks as if it has been tailor-made for me”, Maria-Fernanda Elling, Glion Online MBA student from Ecuador, states. “The approach is fantastic. You read and then discuss with your fellow students and you learn from their experiences as well. I am confident that the program will give me the tools I need to work in line with current management trends. In the current job market, people expect 120% from you.”

An MBA for a changing industry

A board of industry advisors helped to develop the program’s wide reaching managerial content and multi-track specialization options, resulting in content that closely reflects the very latest industry trends.

In a recent paper*, Dr Martin Senior, Program Leader for the Glion Online MBA, underlines the value of an MBA in today’s rapidly changing business world. “An MBA curriculum actually serves as a useful and necessary process in updating and maintaining the relevance of the management profession in almost any organization or industry,”

“As the hospitality industry, along with tourism, continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly diverse and sophisticated, leading to greater complexity for the hospitality service manager to oversee. The MBA is just one of the very popular and credible ways in which the industry can update and professionalize its management cadre.”

For hospitality managers who work long, erratic hours in distant locations, an online MBA is much more accessible, making the qualification more achievable, Dr Senior concludes.

Anniversary offer

To mark the one year anniversary, Glion has a special offer of 15% off tuition fees for new students who apply in time for the August 22 intake. Prospective students can find out if they qualify by registering online at www.gliononline.com

Kate Buchanan says, “I’m thrilled with the success we’ve experienced in our first year and the number and quality of students we have welcomed on to the program. I see this as a real opportunity to continue supporting the hospitality and service industries’ need to develop and train top talent.”
