Hindustan Motors: The future is bright!

Tons of Mitsubishi bhp coming our way

Hindustan Motors' alliance with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation seems to be going the right way if all that was on their stands this Auto Expo makes it to India. It's going to be a power packed array too, which can only be a good thing! The pavilion was more about gauging audience reaction to products that might be on offer soon in the country so as to reach a final conclusion on their fate.

Taking pride of place at the forefront of the HM stall was the Mitsubishi i-MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle). The small car is in general terms an electric version of the Mitsubishi I micro car. Powered by Li-ion batteries that can power the 47kW motor to a maximum of 160km in normal driving conditions, the i-MiEV can reach a top speed of up to 130km/h. The best part about the i-MiEV though is that with the use of a special charging system the batteries can be charged all the way up to 80% in just about 30 minutes. Else, you always have the option of recharging the batteries overnight using household electric power. HM had the vehicle up for display along with a small audio-visual demonstration of the car's features as part of a feasibility study for its entry into India. EVs seem to be the future of the automobile, so we give it a two thumbs up!

Also on display was the Lancer Evolution. While the car already is a legend in its own right and the earlier generation Lancers in India weren't exactly what you'd call a runaway success, Mitsubishi is likely to get a lot more visitors queueing up around the car. The Outlander SUV will almost certainly be made in India as soon as plans are finalized for its European launch. The Outlander is a technically advanced vehicle that is powered by a 2.4 litre MIVEC engine mated to a 6-speed CVT with paddle shifters.
