Website design on Twitter for client he has not met

Social media website Twitter is a virtual office and a game for New Plymouth graphic designer Ross Bennett.
Yesterday Cause and Effect director Mr Bennett could be seen sucking back coffee at Ozone Bean Store frantically working at his laptop and jotting down sketches.
He was hard at work Tweeting a Melbourne woman he had never met as part of a social media competition he runs.
This was Mr Bennett's third Free Logo Friday he had run where, in a live broadcast, he has three hours to design a business logo for one of his Twitter followers.
"It's high pressure, it creates great work, but more importantly it is a wonderful event to broadcast through social media channels as the updates on progress are instant," Mr Bennett said.
This time it was for Oh! Gorgeous Baby, an online blog and website which sold goods and gave advice to parents and mothers-to-be, he said. "It's a really good way to showcase to the people how they can use social media."
He had three hours to complete a full- scale design package for her valued at $1200.
During the time frame he liaised with his client through Twitter and Facebook for all to see.
"It gets rid of the management by committee and all the faffing about."
The purpose of the competition was to illustrate how far-reaching social media was and how businesses could use it to find new clients, he said.
"It's exposure for us and the client."
However most businesses were unsure how to utilise it or lacked the skills to realise its potential as a broadcasting medium, he said.
"Social networks are kind of like borrowing peoples friends," he said.
This time he decided to step out of his studio and into Ozone Bean Store.
"It lends itself nicely to a virtual office environment and there is kickback for the cafe that hosts us because they will also be mentioned over social media throughout the three hours of competition."
When the Taranaki Daily News last saw Mr Bennett he had one hour left and had only just got in contact with his client who had been out for lunch.
"She was out of cellphone coverage but it's all part of the game."
