The Election Commission announced on Friday that the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha by-election would be held on July 1.
The Model Code of Conduct will come into force in the district with immediate effect and will be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the State government. As far as Jharkhand is concerned, the code will also be applicable to the Union government.
Arjun Munda held the parliamentary seat but vacated it after winning the Kharsawan Assembly by-poll last March. The seat has been lying vacant ever since.
Nominations will begin on June 7 and end on June 14. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is June 17. Votes will be counted on July 4.
The Commission has also decided to use electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all the polling stations. Adequate number of EVMs has been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the poll is conducted smoothly. The use of electoral photo identity cards has also been made mandatory.
