CNG prices marginally hiked in Delhi

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) on Saturday announced a marginal increase of 50 paise a kg in the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Delhi, the second such hike in as many months.
IGL, a joint venture of the state-run Gas Authority of India Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, also effected a hike of 55 paise a kg in neighbouring Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.
‘From midnight'
“The new consumer price of Rs. 29.80 a kg in Delhi and Rs. 33.40 a kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad would be effective from midnight tonight [Saturday night],” the company said in a statement here.
The CNG price hike comes close on the heels of the steep hike of Rs. 5 a litre in the price of petrol enforced by the oil marketing companies on May 14. CNG prices were last hiked on April 3 when IGL raised rates by 30 paise a kg.
IGL Managing Director Rajesh Vedvyas said the rates had been hiked because of the increase in cost of input of natural gas.
Besides government-controlled gas and fuel from the Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries' KG-D6 fields, both of which are priced at $4.20 a million British Thermal Unit, the IGL buys higher priced imported Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to meet the demand in Delhi and its adjoining cities.
