MUMBAI: The police are searching for an unidentified person, who on Wednesday after telling a 30-year-old driver to alight from his Tata Indica car, fled with the vehicle. The incident occurred between Bhandup and Kanjurmarg on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) on Wednesday. Investigators said that the accused, dressed in the uniform of a traffic police constable, stopped Aziz Abdul Shaikh, at midnight. Before Shaikh could realize the accused fled with the vehicle.
The Vikhroli police said this is the second such incident that has occurred at the same location. "A year ago, an unidentified person had committed a similar offence. The case is yet to be detected," a police officer said.
Soon after the incident, Shaikh, who drives a tourist vehicle, lodged a complaint with the Vikhroli police station. In his complaint, Shaikh said, "While I was driving, a person dressed in a traffic constable's uniform gestured me to stop. He told me to step out of the vehicle since I had not strapped on my seat belt."
The accused told Shaikh to produce the vehicle's RC book and driving licence. Before Shaikh knew it, the unidentified man got into the vehicle and drove away.
