How to offset the environmental impact of your wedding: ZERO CARBON WEDDINGS

Today, while doing my daily search on the web for news and anything interesting that might inspire me, I happened upon an organization called Carbonfund.org.

At Carbonfund.org they have a trademarked tool called ZeroCarbon Weddings that they developed in partnership with WeddingWire.

It is a calculator that is easy-to-use and allows you to calculate the approximate carbon footprint of your wedding and then find out what it will take to offset it. How great is that?

Kissable Holiday Lips

So you want to try red for the first time at the next holiday soiree?

Or perhaps you're already a red lipstick junkie but want to prevent it from bleeding and smudging to keep it looking fresh...

VIVA GLAM 1 and Russian Red by M-A-C are so versatile that they can work on skin tones from fair to deep.

If you desire a retro matte look reminiscent of Jackie O, Marilyn, or Gwen Stefani: try Ruby Woo or Lady Danger lipstick with Cherry lip pencil by M-A-C Cosmetics.

A classic red lip that stops traffic, like a starlet in a classic movie is well worth the extra steps. Layering products helps your lipstick from wearing off unevenly without worrying about touch ups all night.

How to apply:
  • Start by moisturizing with Kheils lip balm and then blot to remove excess emollients
  • Using a sponge, gently apply a thin layer of M-A-C blot powder all over your lips, above and outside the lip line
  • Apply a few coats of your favorite color, then finish with a lip brush (the retractable kind is super handy - you can throw it in a clutch or your pocket with your lip product).
Tips:
  • For a more dramatic defined look, choose a pencil that contrasts a bit with the focus color. Blend with your brush, blot and dab lipstick one last time.
  • To prevent bleeding use concealer around the edges of your lip all around the lip line.
If you need a touch up from kissing your guests or sipping on martinis, all you have to do is pucker, and dab the color in the center.

Happy Holidays,
LP

P.S. Don't forget to drink though a straw all night!

Escort services sue over new Utah solicitation law

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Two escort services have filed a
federal lawsuit to halt a Utah solicitation law they fear could
lead to the arrest of strippers or escorts who are simply acting
sexy.
Utah defines solicitation as a person agreeing to sex in
exchange for money. A new law that went into effect this month
broadened the definition to include any person who indicates
through lewd acts, such as exposing or touching themselves, that
they intend to exchange sex for money.
It was intended to help law enforcement agents working
undercover in prostitution stings, Salt Lake City Police Chief
Chris Burbank said Friday.
He said it would protect officers who were being asked by
prostitutes to expose or touch themselves to prove they’re not
police because making such requests as a precursor to offering sex
for money is illegal under the new law.
“Officers were being put in a position that we’re not going to
allow, so we took a different direction,” Burbank said.
Andrew McCullough, an attorney representing the escort services
in the lawsuit filed May 9, said the law is so broad that it could
allow police to arrest licensed employees of sexually oriented
businesses, such as escort services or strip club dancers, for
doing their job.
The expanded law includes language that makes a person exposing
their genitals or touching themselves sexually an indication that
they are offering sex. Those acts are legal in Utah for private
strippers.
“Most girls who touch their breasts are not telling you they’re
open for sex,” the attorney said.
McCullough said the law is “virtually identical” to one struck
down by a federal judge as unconstitutional in 1988.
The Utah law could be used by police to hassle businesses
protected by the First Amendment, McCullough said. For example, he
said a semi-nude dancer at a strip club could be arrested for
“suggestively thrusting.”
Burbank said officers would not target anyone who is not a
prostitute. Arrests will be made by undercover officers and only
when it becomes obvious that a deal is being arranged, he
said.
Utah House Minority Whip Jennifer Seelig, D-Salt Lake City, who
sponsored the bill during the 2011 legislative session, said she
worked with many different groups, including defense attorneys, to
iron out legal issues with the law.
The intent is to target prostitutes, especially underage ones
who are forced into the sex trade and trained to evade arrest,
Seelig said. The arrest would be the first step in helping them get
off the streets, she said.

Gov. Daniels has done right with abortion law

Someone much wiser than me once said that if you want to get to the bottom of any problem involving people, particularly government; then you must “follow the money.”
Recently, Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana signed the only bill in the nation that restricts companies that perform abortions from receiving state funding. This legislation severely limits the abortion industry in Indiana.
There is no doubt that House Bill 1205 caused a national controversy when signed into law by Gov. Daniels. The national and local media provided ample opportunity for those who support abortion to voice their opposition to this legislation. Much of the outcry against this legislation seems to center around the health services provided by companies like Planned Parenthood for low income women. In fact, many of those opposed state that this legislation will limit Planned Parenthood’s efforts to offer health services to minority women who are Medicaid recipients.
However, there is another side to this story not often sought by the media from those of us who believe in a child’s inherent right to live, in spite of the parent’s circumstances. Our story is often shouted down by hurled accusations from the opposition that range from intolerance, gender bias and even racism. How unfortunate that we seem to lack the ability to discuss issues based on their merits, rather than sinking into the abyss of name calling, personal attacks and even political gamesmanship.
Many opponents of this legislation say that Gov. Daniels only signed the legislation in order to promote his presidential aspirations. True or not, it is really immaterial to the foundation of whether this legislation benefits the citizens of Indiana. It is the job of our executive, legislative and judicial branches of government to act in the best interest of the majority of the citizens without causing discriminatory harm to those in the minority on any given issue. In other words, legislation should never infringe upon the basic human rights of people, whether they agree with the legislation or not.
To those who contend that restricting abortion infringes upon a woman’s right to do what she will with her body, I respond thusly; everyone has a right to control their own body, whether male or female. The problem does not lie within the veracity of that statement; on the contrary, the problem lies in our definition of a right. A right is any act committed that does not confer an obligation on another in its performance. The act of abortion violates this in that it confers death upon the baby in its performance.
The real story behind this hailstorm of opposition from Planned Parenthood is how this affects their financial bottom line, despite their rather deft efforts to portray themselves as banner carriers for the health of low income women. Accordingly Becky Cockrum, president of Planned Parenthood of Indiana said, “There’s certainly a chance we will have to decide that we cannot see Medicaid patients unless they are able to somehow pay for their services themselves.” This sort of veiled threat certainly seems to imply that if it were not for Planned Parenthood, these women would not have these services.
This is indicative of the public relations strategy for companies like Planned Parenthood. They craftily use media to make us believe that we can’t live without them. The truth is that Planned Parenthood makes very little money from offering Medicaid recipients the health services they need like birth control or gynecological exams. The real value for them and any business is the relationship built with customers. If a customer trusts a business, in this case a woman trusts Planned Parenthood, they tend to become repeat customers. So it is easy to move from receiving basic health care to having an abortion if and when that time of emotional stress occurs surrounding that decision. This is where Planned Parenthood makes their money.
While it is true that abortion only accounts for 3% of Planned Parenthood’s services, let’s take a moment and consider the income that abortion generates for this organization that desires your tax dollars. According to Planned Parenthood’s fact sheet released in February 2011, they performed 332,278 abortions in 2009, a 2.5% increase from the previous year. The conservative average cost estimate is about $200 per procedure. This leaves a conservatively estimated total of $66,455,600.00 earned each year from abortion.
It is this fact that leads us to believe that one reason Planned Parenthood spends incredible sums of money fighting legislation like HB 1205 is the profitability of abortion for their company. It may be their most profitable product. From a strictly business perspective, one can understand their desire to hold on to these dollars and profits. However, this begs the question as to whether we should pour public funds into a private company who profits from the death of babies.
If the medical services were most important, Planned Parenthood could easily restore the 3 million dollars lost in state funding by refusing to do abortions. In addition, Medicaid recipients have the option to use well over 100 doctors for gynecological services in Lake County alone.
Even though we may and should often question the motives of our leaders; occasionally they actually look out for the least of us, the unborn.

BB murder case: ATC issues contempt of court notice to DG FIA
An Anti terrorism court (ATC) issued contempt of court notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Malik Iqbal for transferring investigation officer in the Benazir Bhuttto murder case. The hearing was conducted in the Adiala Jail here on Saturday. The special judge expressed annoyance over the replacement of investigation officer Shuja Naveed by Khalid Rasool. He asked why the officer has been changed at the time when he was to submit compliance report over the arrest warrants for former military ruler Pervez Musharraf. The investigation officer of the Benazir assassination case has been changed for fourth time since the ATC started hearing into the murder of the former prime minister.

A tearful Knox tells Italian court: ‘I’m innocent’

PERUGIA, Italy
— Being in prison is “very frustrating and mentally exhausting,” a tearful Amanda Knox said Saturday, insisting she is innocent of murdering her roommate and does not want to spend the rest of her life behind bars.
The former exchange student was emotional as she briefly addressed the appeals court in Perugia, her voice breaking at times. The 23-year-old American is appealing her 2009 conviction for sexually assaulting and murdering British student Meredith Kercher, for which she received 26 years in prison.
The appeals court on Saturday set June 30 as a deadline for a key review of DNA evidence by independent forensic experts in the Knox case and allowed five new witnesses sought by the defense — all inmates in Italian prisons who claim they have information clearing Knox and her Italian co-defendant, Raffaele Sollecito.
“I’ve spent more than three and a half years in prison as an innocent person, and this for me is very frustrating and mentally exhausting,” Knox said. “But nothing is more important that finding the truth after prejudices and many mistakes.”
“I don’t want to spend my whole life in prison as an innocent,” she added.
Knox and Sollecito were arrested Nov. 6, 2007, a few days after Kercher’s body, her throat slit, was found in the apartment that she and Knox shared in Perugia. Sollecito, Knox’s boyfriend at the time, was convicted of the same charges and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
The two have always denied wrongdoing, and much hinges on the review of DNA evidence used to convict them.
The independent experts are looking at DNA traces on two pieces of evidence that allegedly linked the defendants to the crime: a kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon, and the clasp of Kercher’s bra.
Prosecutors said in the first trial that Knox’s DNA was found on the knife’s handle, Kercher’s DNA was found on the blade, and Sollecito’s DNA was found on the clasp of Kercher’s bra. The defense says those DNA traces were inconclusive and might have been contaminated when they were collected and analyzed.
The two court-appointed experts could not retest the tiny traces of DNA and are now assessing the reliability of the tests that were originally conducted.
After obtaining a 40-day delay to collect all the documents, the experts from La Sapienza University will finish their report June 30 and describe their findings to the court in a crucial hearing July 25.
The appeals trial will continue June 18 with the new testimony.
The new witnesses include a convict held in the same prison as Rudy Hermann Guede, an Ivorian man who has also been convicted of killing Kercher in separate proceedings. Mario Alessi, a convicted child murderer, claimed that Guede had told him that Knox and Sollecito weren’t at the scene the night of the murder and had nothing to do with Kercher’s death. This has been denied by Guede himself.
Three witnesses were called to back up Alessi’s claim.
In addition, Luciano Aviello, a Mafia turncoat currently serving time in prison, will testify about his claim that his brother, a fugitive from justice, had killed Kercher as he was robbing apartments in the neighborhood.
In another odd twist, the tribunal also discussed a three-page handwritten document dated May 6 that was sent to the court and to Knox’s defense by yet another inmate, Tommaso Pace. The presiding judge said Pace, who gave yet another version of Kercher’s killing in his letter, might be heard later in the appeal.
Knox’s remarks were the highlight of a hearing largely dedicated to paving the way for the trial to go on. The American smiled politely as she entered the courtroom. Her father Curt Knox said she was disappointed at having to wait for the DNA review, but also was ready to wait “whatever it takes for a fully vetted response” by the forensic experts.
A verdict by the appeals court is expected after the summer.
