The Advantages of Mind OS

For centuries, we have used storytelling and pictures to learn the lessons of our culture. Through this course, we can for the first time make the invisible world of psychology, visible. Therefore the solutions to any dilemma you have in life will also become visible right before your eyes.

All psychotherapy or “coaching” ever given has always been in VERBAL form “talk-therapy”, “talk-radio”, and “books-on-tape” all rely on words, not pictures. But in learning this new science, you will instead learn how to take a blank sheet of paper and draw a picture of what amounts to your very “soul.” This thing which contains your psychology inside has been called “soul”, “psyche”, “self”, “personhood”, and many other words that mean “me”.

What you are about to learn is how to work the tiniest controls of that “psyche” and make it more effectively work with others. Its anatomy and mechanics will appear before your eyes on paper.

Through easy-to-understand language, you will also learn the real, practical meaning of those once vague terms such as “self-esteem”, “confidence”, “intuition”, “stress”, and a host of other formerly confusing verbal labels. Their meaning will be VISIBLE to you, and you can put these scientifically sound principles to work right away.

As a psychiatrist, I have taken the most advanced principles of my profession and put them into simple instructions. Why? Because today’s business environment makes it a necessity - I don’t want the average person to miss out on the power that today’s expensive psychoanalysis contains, and which most of us can’t afford.

By learning to break all the parts of life’s trouble into chewable bites, you will see that they are all composed of three elements—“unhappiness”, “failure”, and “being trapped.” Many people believe these are the same. They are not.

When people say they are miserable, or confused, or “feel empty”, they are really talking about some combination of these three things. Look at any personal problem you have ever had and you will see that it was made up of some combination of “unhappiness”, “failure”, or “being trapped.”

Unhappiness is based on emotion. Failure is based on lacking the types of intellect to reach a goal. And “being trapped” is based on lack of decision-making power.

Luckily, we have all kinds of psychological resources inside, no matter how depressed, anxious or confused you have ever been. These resources can all be grouped into three categories too - emotional energy, intellect (ideas), and decision-making power.

When we use these three kinds of resource effectively, we win three rewards that solve any problem we have ever had—happiness, success, and freedom. These are based on emotion, intellect, and decisions, respectively.

So—if we learn together how to divide all problems into emotional, intellectual, and decision-based parts, we can solve any problem effectively. In the place of a life of problems will be a life of happiness, success, and freedom.

When we go to a psychiatrist or psychoanalyst, they know that there are three kinds of causes of our problems and three types of cure in the medical toolbox. In order to learn how what I am going to teach you will help, we also need to know how medicine, therapy, and YOU all fit into the cure for what ails you.

Biology, Psychology, and Stress

All of your problems in life stem from one or more of these three basic causes:
· Biology
· Psychology
· Stress

These elements are present in our lives all the time. No single one can cause all troubles in life, but a combination of them can produce failure, unhappiness, and a sense of “being trapped.” In extreme cases, psychiatrists treat mental problems with medication, but drugs are only a small part of fully ridding our lives of trouble.

That’s why what I am going to teach you will solve each and every one of life’s troubles that medicines HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO HELP YOU WITH.

Here is how the three causes of mood problems work together: Stress can harm your brain chemistry, but it doesn’t work the other way around. We can change the psychology in us, and the stress outside us, but medicines can never change our stresses or who we are. Personal growth to change how effectively we use our internal resources—that’s our job, not the medicine’s job.

1. Biology is about the chemistry in our brains, genetics and physical symptoms. We can “fix” a biological problem with medicines, but biology is all they fix—physical symptoms get better. Medicines cannot change your personality, your psychology or things like self-esteem level, and they do nothing about the specific stresses in your life.

2. Psychology involves our personal style of using emotions, ideas, choices, and our “personal boundary”. Psychology molds our “personality”. Only psychotherapy or education can change how we use these resources. Our psychology battles stress, reaches goals, and fills us up on self-esteem (or happiness). Medicines can’t do that.

3. Stress originates as an outside threat. If we let it break through our personal boundary, it can turn into anger or anxiety on the inside. Neither medicines nor therapy can alter our stresses—only we can, by making a decision about how to handle it. However, stress can certainly alter how we use our psychology; then our more negative psychology can start to alter our brain chemistry, our biology.

It’s a one-way deal: Stress can lower your brain’s serotonin level, but fixing your brain’s serotonin level with a medicine does nothing to remove the particulars of the stress from your life. And so you might see how psychology is the linchpin between using our resources on the inside to battle the trouble on the outside (stress). AND in the process, we use psychology to fill up with “happiness” on the inside and reach our goals on the outside, which is called “success.”

At last, you can work from this single, easy-to-understand model for solving your own problems rather than relying solely on a doctor or “guru”. That gives YOU control over life—nothing less satisfies.

Whether your dilemma involves relationships, work, finances, spiritual or personal issues, you will be equipped to find the solutions on your own. And where there seem to be no solutions to be had, you will learn how to “drop” the situation and move onward anyway.

If you have ever thought that stress runs your life, doctors run your life, your boss runs your life, your spouse runs your life, or anyone else but you—take heart! Psychology runs everything in life, from your mood to your income, and from the entertainment culture to whole economies of nations.

Psychology runs everything, and guess what is at its core? Free will to make decisions. For a troubled life in troubled times, your free will is a saving grace. Decisions run your life, and YOU run THEM.

Your personal psychology springs from free will, and you have the freedom to choose any style of psychology you want to have.

The Source of Most Problems: Being Passive

You see, many people read self-help books or go to therapy, and then forget everything they learn a few days later. They return to their old passive, self-destructive ways. So how does this way of life begin?

Perhaps at some point maybe long ago, you dared to try for some goal, and failed. Then you tried again and again until the result came out right—maybe learning to drive, or get a good job, or strike up a romance. You succeeded eventually, because . . . well, you “had to.”

Yet, somewhere along the way, anywhere from moments to years after your birth, you learned to just sit and wait.

That was when you first joined the “rat race” we all complain about, you see. You tried a few times, and failed. Oh well, it was “just my silly dreams” you might have said, not the “important” stuff like food, shelter, and transportation.

You did have big dreams as a child - guaranteed - imagining every success possible from being an astronaut, or a princess, to being a rock star.

However, you eventually grew up and feared you’d starve if you kept trying to make your fondest dreams of childhood real. You started to “see the glass half-full”, and you called yourself a “realist.”

So what do you do with your life when this happens?

You stop making decisions in your best interest, and then food, alcohol, TV and passive entertainment, consumerism, anxiety, depression, and every other demon decides he wants YOU.

Some part of us may have goals, and may even envision what happiness would mean for us, but somewhere along the line, many of us have forgotten how to make decisions.

The passive part of us causes us to just sit and wait - doomed to what we all call “the rat race.”

We wish for a raise; then wait for it to happen.

We wish to be married; then wait for it to happen.

We wish for happiness to arrive, and then wait for it.

We wish to win the lotto.

If you let the passive part of you take over, then you’ll be wishing for the rest of your life. If you give up making decisions about your life, life will start making decisions about YOU!

“Off to the gutter” it will be with you.

Instead of getting your dream job, the passive part of you will be awarded the job nobody else wanted.

Instead of getting the marriage you’ve always wanted, the passive part of you will be awarded some sort of “oh-well-it’s-good-enough” cold companionship.

Instead of living a happy, energetic vital life that is always growing, the passive part of you will be awarded a kind of vague emptiness.

You will become the leftovers from other people’s lives - that is how powerful and destructive the passive part of you can be.

But you can stop living passively, even if you have a psychiatric diagnosis that requires medication.

As a medical doctor, psychiatrist, and psychoanalyst, I will show you where the “traps” of life are, and how to escape them.

One big trap is baited with a Prozac tablet. While medicines are sometimes necessary to control faulty biochemistry in the brain, they are only one-third of the answer, as we have learned. The other two-thirds - psychology and stress - are clearly in your control!

Here’s how the three elements work together on the particular part of you that is passive:

Passive people don’t like to make decisions, so stress begins to build their lives. Soon their psychology is altered by the stress, and their thinking becomes more negative and destructive. If a person suffers long enough with negative thinking, he or she can bring on the physical symptoms of depression. The problem actually becomes biology.

As we’ve learned at this point, medicine can help manage physical symptoms. But that’s all. The person on psychiatric medicine for depression feels physically better at first.

However, if she continues to let the indecisive, passive part of her have its way - making no decisions for herself - stress will continue to grow in her life.

As I have said, stress will never be cured by a medicine, because the cure for stress is a decision.

As we have learned, there is no such thing as a “purely biological depression.”

The passive part of us just keeps on waiting for the right pill to come along and live life for us, the perfect excuse for not taking ownership of what good things are meant to become of our lives.

There is also no such thing as a “purely stress-related depression,” because all stress influences the style with which we use our psychology and even eventually start to alter the balance of chemicals in the brain.

Here, you will learn to master psychology both to beat stress outside you, and nurture the biology inside you - both eliminate the stress that medicines do nothing about, and encourage the biology that your doctor can help you further with, through medicines.

MindOS prevents stress and failure through the power of decisions that break us out of “being trapped.”

When you are passive, you may be tempted to let life subtly make decisions about YOU.

It is that temptation that lets us imagine medicines can solve all psychiatric problems.

But humans have more power than we sometimes realize - the power of decisions, the power to keep us from being overcome by that inner passive streak we can all have at times.
