Latin American Corporate Governance Trifecta – In Rio!

The Companies Circle Meeting, the Latin American Roundtable, and the Meeting of the Latin American Institutes of Corporate Governance took place during October 2010 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

2010 Annual Meeting of the Companies Circle, October 20

The Companies Circle is a unique initiative launched in 2005 in São Paulo, Brazil on the recommendation of the Latin American Corporate Governance Roundtable, with support from the Global Corporate Governance Forum, the International Finance Corporation and the OECD.

It brings together a group of leading Latin American companies who have adopted good corporate governance practices in order to provide private sector input into the work of the Roundtable, and to showcase how good governance benefits company performance.

This year, the meeting of the Companies Circle was special: The Circle enlarge its membership for the first time since the most recent member joined in 2007. This decision was taken by the Circle’s existing 12 members at the annual meeting in September 2009.

Roundtable participants share experiences on corporate governance developments in their companies and Latin America. Through the exchange of ideas, participants leave with insights that will benefit their companies and inform policy discussions.

11th. Meeting of the Latin American Corporate Governance Roundtable, October 21-22

The policy makers, regulators, investors, businesses and other corporate governance advocates discussed four main themes:
  • Overcoming obstacles to corporate governance-related enforcement
  • Enhancing board effectiveness
  • Evaluating the impact of stock exchanges on corporate governance
  • Launching of the White Paper on institutional investors and corporate governance
The Roundtable also explored additional topics in a break-out small group format: corporate governance of non-listed companies, the link between corporate governance and corporate responsibility, and board evaluations from company and investor perspectives.

This year's meeting was very special because we were celebrating 10 years of the Roundtable!

The meeting was sponsored by the Global Corporate Governance Forum, the International Finance Corporation and the OECD.
