Cupcakes for the Cure: Denver bakeries team up for breast cancer research

Through May 8th, cupcake lovers in the Denver area can support breast cancer research by buying cupcakes from participating bakeries, where 50 cents from each cupcake goes toward the Denver affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. You can also visit Cupcakes for the Cure Denver/Boulder on Facebook and see what participating bakeries are doing.

More information:

Founded in 2008 by breast cancer survivor Lisa Shelly and fellow cupcake buddies Kathy Cagney-Rossi and Doris Cheung, "Cupcakes for the Cure" is a third party event organized to benefit the Denver Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. During the week leading up to Mother's Day, participating bakeries create pink-themed cupcakes and donate a portion of the proceeds from sales to Komen.

Now in its fourth year, "Cupcakes for the Cure" has raised over $14,000 in donations. From the beginning, Lisa, Kathy and Doris have worked to combine their shared love of cupcakes with a commitment to the mission of the Komen organization. With help from some great volunteers, the team creates all promotional materials and does all the marketing themselves. The event allows cupcake lovers to indulge their passion while contributing to a worthy cause, and participating bakeries get a chance to demonstrate their community involvement.
